Mr Simon Johnson, Honorary Senior Clinical Teacher, Training Programme Director and Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Consultant, NHS Tayside

Mr Johnson has been a substantive consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in NHS Tayside since 2015. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and then completed the South East Scotland Basic Surgical Training programme. He moved to East Scotland for higher surgical Orthopaedic training and following award of CCT, completed the internationally recognised Pulvertaft Hand Fellowship. In 2019, he completed the British Diploma in Hand Surgery.

In 2015, Mr Johnson was appointed as the undergraduate teaching lead for Orthopaedics and in 2019, moved position to take on the role as East Region Orthopaedic Training Programme Director for the specialty registrar training programme. This involves many duties including national panellist for the Scottish T&O ST1 selection / recruitment process. As well as teaching students in the University of Dundee Medical School, he is also a 1st,2nd,3rd, 4th and 5th year portfolio supervisor, OSCE examiner and sits on the medical school applications committee. He teaches on the MCHOrth programme and is a module tutor for the Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Technology Master’s degree programme.
